LANAP is the best way to treat gum disease

What’s Gum Disease?

Gum Disease is an infection of the gums. It starts out as plaque, an opaque film on the teeth that hardens to form calculus or tartar.

Left untreated, gum disease can cause discomfort and bleeding in your gums. As it advances, it destroys the tissue and bone in your jaw, which might eventually cause you to lose one or more of your teeth. Gum disease has also been linked to serious systemic diseases like heart disease. If your gum disease has advanced to more serious stages, it is very important to get treatment to prevent any further health issues.

What’s LANAP?

LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) that uses laser fibers to get rid of the infected and inflamed portion of your gums. The laser fiber, which is only about as wide as three human hairs, is inserted between the gum tissue and your tooth, where it painlessly removes the noxious elements that cause gum disease.

What’s so great about LANAP?

LANAP is the most effective, least painful way to treat gum disease. 98 percent of patients have no trace of gum disease five years after the LANAP procedure.  Gum therapies were not nearly this effective and required invasive procedures that left a patient with a long recovery time. With LANAP , your dentist can remove bacteria from the gums without having to cut, tear, or remove healthy tissue.

Is LANAP a hassle?

If you opt for this procedure, you will visit your dentist for two two-hour sessions, as opposed to 8-10 1 hour sessions with surgery. You do not need any anesthetic so you will be able to drive yourself home after the procedure is complete. You can also expect little pain and a very short recovery period, due to the laser’s ability to seal blood vessels, lymphatics and nerve endings.

But it must be quite expensive…
